  1. If you could possibly narrow it down, what would be your favorite moment of a wedding day?

My favorite moment of a wedding day has to be the kiss at the altar. So much anticipation goes into this moment when bride and groom are finally announced husband and wife. You can see true happiness in the couple’s expression afterwards. Even though I’ve been through this moment many times with countless couples, I still cry at this point. It’s just too good not to!

  1. Describe your event aesthetic in three words.

Mari+Gerald157iPad.jpg

My photography style is natural, candid, and all about light. I love to make the couple feel like I’m not even there so they can be themselves, comfortable, and focused on their day and not the pictures. I try to make the photography just as fun and and romantic as the wedding itself.

  1. The first thing you ask when you sit down with a couple?

BradJoy009

How did you meet? I’m so curious to know how people met—whether through friends, at the grocery store, online, or elsewhere. It’s so interesting to me how bonds are instantly formed when you know it’s right. I then immediately jump into the proposal! It’s always so fun and romantic to find out how a couple's marriage first came into fruition.

  1. Top three pieces of advice for couples who just got engaged?

Take your time planning the wedding. Don’t rush into things, make sure you are both on the same page as far as priorities, expectations, budget, number of guests, and more. The planning process should be a fun way to get to know each other on yet another level before the big day!

  1. Most important detail of wedding decor?

I think you can do a wedding very simply or very extravagantly. It’s just a matter of stylistic preference. If you are going with the former, color palette is the most important detail. You can pull something together just simply by keeping the palette down to 2-3 colors max. Simple is so beautiful.

  1. Your thoughts on DIY weddings?

MariGerald161

I love DIY weddings! Have some great ideas you want to implement yourself? Go for it! On a budget? Go for it! Sometimes DIY can be the most personal. And you can even get your friends and family involved. One idea I love is for the next day brunch—have everyone bring something. Assign the guests a type of dish to bring and watch it all come together with everyone feeling involved.

  1. What would your ideal tablescape look like?

The ideal tablescape for me is simple. A beautiful bouquet of flowers in the center, and lovely personal touches like place cards that match the wedding invitations, a CD featuring the to-come playlist, or even just a schedule of events with a bag of treats for later. Personally, I love a white table with colorful flowers. So simple, so beautiful.

  1. Your favorite of all the San Francisco wedding venues?

BradJoy032

I photographed at the China Cabin in Tiburon—simply incredible. With gorgeous views of the Bay and Bay Bridge and an incredible sunset, this intimate and charming location did not disappoint. Appropriate for relatively small weddings, this cabin was where cocktail hour, the ceremony, and party took place is a stunning single room building where 22-karat gold glitters in all directions. It was once the saloon of the PS china offering a glimpse into a first class passenger style for the ship as it set sail from San Francisco.

  1. The most important part of wedding planning?

The most important part of wedding planning is making sure both bride and groom to-be are on the same page with regards to expectations. This includes level of personal involvement whether DIY or hiring a wedding planner + designer to bring your dreams to life. And of course making sure you’re in sync in terms of budget to ensure you both start their life in agreement on the level of financial commitment your wedding requires.

  1. Describe your dream wedding.

MariGerald017

My dream wedding would be calling a “weddingcation.” A group of 10-20 friends on holiday in a far flung tropical location, with an intimate ceremony down on a sandy beach nearby, and an epic party to follow for the next several days. A friendcation, if you will. I recently photographed a wedding just like this for Mari + Gerald in Costa Rica. We had a week-long wedding adventure with her closest friends and it was incredible to be there photographing the start of their new life.Book Andrea Weddings for your event today!
